Boys Really Will Be Boys

Remember when I said boys will be boys? Guess I really meant it!

This is far from Trenton's first bonk on the head, but it is certainly his first one that bled! We took him to an after-hours pediatrics clinic, where the doctor decided to superglue the cut even it wasn't too too deep. My baby is going to have a superglued forehead for a week to ten days! We love our active little guy and are proud of what a trooper he was today at the doctor's office!

I haven't decided if you'll be seeing Trenton and I in public for the next week or so...

Boys Will Be Boys

Trenton LOVES his daddy. A lot of the time when Ryan's holding him, he'll push me away if I get too close! (Can't blame him, though, since for the most part I'm the one who does the no fun stuff like changing diapers and getting him dressed.) The boys like to do manly things, like power wash a cement wall at our complex and trim tree branches on the property. The other day Trenton had way too much fun being a macho-man with Daddy, while opening Ryan's new drill.

I wish you all could see Trenton's grin when Daddy walks in the door. He also loves to have Daddy chase him on all fours. He gives his dad that look—you know, the one that says, "Come and get me!" And then he takes off down the hall. Also, two weeks till his first birthday and he's taking up to 8 steps at a time!

But despite all the growth, at the end of the day, he's still Mama's little boy.

The Perils of Social Networking

Sometimes I think blogs and facebook do me more harm than good. I like staying updated on what everyone's up to, but sometimes it's all too easy to start thinking that everyone's life is as breezy as it seems through status updates and photo-filled blogs. (BTW, if anyone knows what episodes of Friends I'm referencing with the word "breezy," I'll send you a prize!)

Exhibit A
A friend's status update on facebook: "So-and-so is making more cookies than she and the hubby could possibly consume."

You know what? I made cookies that day too. But it was with an 11-month-old clinging to my legs (whining), making it surprisingly hard to get around my tiny kitchen. (I've been having one of those weeks where I want to scream at anyone who doesn't have a child yet to ENJOY EVERY MOMENT because you have no idea how free you are. Not that I don't absolutely love my boy, because I do.)

I would provide more exhibits, but I don't want you to think I'm a total downer. I know I have so, so much to be thankful for. But please also know that just because my blog is filled with a lot of smiley photos doesn't mean we're any different than you in real life.

With that said, I'm going to go clean something.

PS. I'd love to know if anybody else ever thinks this way too.

Summer Lovin'

We're having way too much fun here in California. I'm about to watch a movie with the family, but I wanted to quickly toss a couple of photos up—I can't resist because they're so cute! You'll probably be seeing many, many more...

You know you're a mom when...

You find yourself saying "Vrooooom" as you turn a corner with the shopping cart and then look down and remember there is no baby in your cart today.

The Nuzzler

Our current favorite thing that Trenton does is nuzzle his blanket. If there's a soft blanket on the floor and he's just slightly tired, he'll nuzzle it with his head, rest for a few seconds, and then toss and turn, tugging the blanket with him as he goes. He did it for 10 minutes today, and Ryan and I watched the whole time, trying to laugh silently so as not to distract him. Man, he is so much fun right now!

That Ensign didn't stand a chance.
