T's First Hike

So when it comes to Ryan, the pregnancy card didn't take me too far. And now that I've had Trenton, the "I had a baby three weeks ago" excuse doesn't get me out of much either. Today we went on our first family hike--straight up a mountain. I'm not joking, at times it was straight up. Thankfully it wasn't very long, just seriously steep. (However, it doesn't hold a candle to hiking Timp, which my sister Rachel just did. Go Rach!)

The view at the top was breathtaking on all sides. You can practically see the whole bay, all the way to San Francisco, and on the other side are the beautiful green hills that block us from the ocean. And the best part is that the trailhead is within walking distance of our house.

Little Trent was a trooper! Give him a little milk when he fusses, and a few minutes later...

This is what you get! A zonked out, bouncing baby.

Baby Take-Over

Trenton is stealing the show on this blog. Hope no one minds the baby take-over! Here are a couple recent cute photos. Though it's a bit fuzzy, the first picture is my favorite face that Trenton makes. I love that crinkled brow! (I try to picture that adorable little expression when I'm up with him at 2am!) The second is a photo of him after he woke from a morning nap. He is so warm and cuddly when he wakes up.

Happy three-week birthday, Trenton!

Mr. Handsome

We're practicing lying down these days. Normally, he's only happy if he's eating, sleeping, or being rocked/swaddled/sung to/patted all at once! But every day he gets a little bit better at just relaxing. When we took this video, he actually lay there for about 20 minutes! And yesterday he spent 25 minutes in the swing--just enough time for Mommy to paint her toes.

Hopefully someday I'll be able to persuade him to give up the nightlife...!

Little Buddy

Thank goodness for Mom! Trenton is keeping us on our toes! I don't know what I'd do if my mom weren't in town for the week, helping me get the hang of this mommy thing. Trenton has a mind of his own and much prefers to sleep during the day rather than the night. He loves to be held and cuddled, with his arms and legs wrapped close to his body. So far, he hates getting his diaper changed, so the whole neighborhood probably knows when he's getting changed! But I'm proud of him because he's eating well and pooping often(!). (He's managed to spray us four times already! I thought babies only did that on TV.) Trenton still gets the hiccups frequently, which he did all the time when he was in my tummy.

Too cute not to post

...even though I probably should be sleeping.

We love those little hands! And he has the longest fingernails! Imagine if he'd come 9 days later...

We've got our work cut out for us!

His home-from-the-hospital outfit was much too big for him, but it's still darling! I had a onsie that was smaller, but it was such an ordeal to put the first one on that I decided not to attempt changing him. :)

So sweet!

The first of many father-son naps. (The nurse made me move Trenton right after I took the picture.)

It's a boy!!

Trenton Reid Nielsen made his big appearance Wednesday morning at 9:04. He weighs 8 pounds, 1 once and is 20.5 inches long. We love him so much and are grateful he is safely here.

More details to come...

"I love Skiing!!!"

(Click on the image to see Sarah's facial expression better)

I was going through getting pictures off our old computer that we sold and I found this one of Sarah taken a couple of years ago after a half-day at Snowbird.

Obviously you can tell she is thinking "I love skiing! When can we do this again!!" Earlier that morning as we were leaving the hotel room she casually pointed to her gloves laying on the bed and said "I'm not going to need those am I?" I guess it's a good thing that she brought them.

We love you Sarah!!!
